Seneca Professor and Director Tristan Barrocks Wins Award of Excellence at the 2025

Communicator Awards

Toronto, ON — Seneca College faculty member Tristan Barrocks, an accomplished director

and storyteller in the School of Creative Arts and Animation, has received the Award of

Excellence in the Commercials – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion category at the 2025

Communicator Awards for his branded short film “I AM HUMAN.”

Presented by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts (AIVA), the Communicator Awards is

the leading international awards program recognizing excellence in communication across

digital, video, podcasts, marketing, and more. Barrocks’ work was selected from thousands

of global entries, and his award represents the highest honour in the competition.

Produced in collaboration with BIPOC Executive Search, “I AM HUMAN” challenges

conventional narratives within corporate culture and centers the lived experiences of

equity-deserving professionals. The film’s powerful message and visually striking direction

earned acclaim for its emotional depth and social relevance.

“This project is more than a commercial—it’s a call to action,” says Barrocks. “To be

acknowledged by the Communicator Awards in the DEI category is especially meaningful,

as it reaffirms our responsibility to shape media that reflects the world as it is—and as it

should be.”

Barrocks brings his real-world directing experience into the classroom, offering Seneca

students invaluable mentorship in storytelling craft, industry practice, and socially engaged

media. His accolades contribute to Seneca’s reputation as a hub for creative excellence,

applied learning, and innovation in visual storytelling.

This award follows Barrocks’ recent dual-win at the 46th Annual Telly Awards, positioning “I

AM HUMAN” as a standout project in both commercial storytelling and inclusive

representation.
